Getting started

Tap + on the home screen to create a deck, or a category to group several decks together. Open a deck and tap + again to add your first card. There is a full set of walkthroughs inside the app under Settings → Tutorials.

Frequently asked

How do I bring my Anki decks across?

Export your deck from Anki as an .apkg file, then in Cerebo tap + on the home screen and choose Import from Anki. Cards, media, cloze deletions, reverse cards and scheduling all come across, and nested Anki decks become Cerebo categories. Cerebo can export back to .apkg at any time, so your cards are never locked in.

How does the scheduling work?

Cerebo uses the SM-2 spaced repetition algorithm. After you see a card's answer you rate it Again, Hard, Good or Easy, and that rating sets when the card comes back — easy cards move out to longer intervals, difficult ones return sooner. You can set a daily limit for new cards and reviews per deck.

Can I write maths and code on a card?

Yes. In the card editor, expand the editor and use the toolbar to insert a math block (LaTeX), a code block with syntax highlighting, or a graph of one or more functions. You can also write inline maths in text with \(…\), and build tables with ordinary markdown pipes.

How do cloze deletions work?

Wrap the part you want hidden in double braces: The capital of France is {{c1::Paris}}. Use c1, c2 and so on to reveal blanks separately, and add a hint with a second pair of colons: {{c1::Paris::the city of light}}.

My decks aren't syncing between devices

  1. Check that iCloud sync is turned on in Cerebo's Settings on every device.
  2. Make sure all devices are signed in to the same Apple Account, with iCloud Drive enabled.
  3. Sync needs a network connection, and can take a few minutes to settle after a large import.
  4. Cerebo's Settings screen shows the current sync status and reports the last error if one occurred.

Does Cerebo work offline?

Completely. Every feature except iCloud sync works with no network connection at all — the app makes no network requests of its own.

Where does the AI card generation run?

On your device, using Apple Intelligence. It appears only on devices that support it, and nothing you write is sent to any server the developer operates.

How do I back up my cards?

Open a deck, tap the ⋯ menu and choose an export format — JSON keeps the most detail, .apkg is best if you want to open the deck in Anki, and CSV is the simplest to read elsewhere. Save the file wherever you keep backups.

Can I use Cerebo on my Apple Watch?

Yes — install the Cerebo watch app from the Watch app on your iPhone. Your decks sync across from your phone so you can review on your wrist. There are also Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets showing what's due, and a Live Activity while a study session is running.
