Privacy Policy
Cerebo · Last updated 13 September 2026
Cerebo collects no data about you. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. The app makes no network requests of its own. Everything you create stays on your device. If your device is signed into iCloud, iCloud sync — which you can turn off in Settings — moves it through your own private iCloud account, which the developer cannot access.
What Cerebo stores, and where
Your decks, cards, images, audio recordings, PDF attachments, study history and settings are stored locally on your device, inside the app's own container. They are not sent anywhere by the app.
iCloud sync
iCloud sync is on by default when your device is signed into iCloud, and can be turned off at any time in Settings. While it is on, your decks and cards are synchronised between your own Apple devices using Apple's CloudKit, stored in your private CloudKit database.
- The data lives in your personal iCloud account, not on any server the developer runs.
- The developer has no access to it and cannot read it.
- Apple's handling of that data is covered by Apple's Privacy Policy.
- Turning sync off stops further synchronisation. Removing the data from iCloud is done through your device's iCloud settings.
Camera, photos and microphone
Cerebo asks for these only when you use the feature that needs them, and only to put content on a card:
- Camera — to photograph or scan something onto a card.
- Photo library — to add images you choose to a card.
- Microphone — to record an audio clip onto a card.
The resulting files are saved with your card on your device. Nothing is uploaded. Text recognition (OCR) on an image runs entirely on your device. You can decline any of these permissions and keep using the rest of the app.
AI card generation
Cerebo's AI generation uses Apple Intelligence through Apple's
on-device FoundationModels framework. It runs on your device, and
the developer neither sees nor receives your prompts or card content. The
feature appears only on devices that support Apple Intelligence. Apple's
terms govern that framework's behaviour.
Translation and text-to-speech
The translate and read-aloud features use Apple's own system Translation and speech frameworks. These are presented by the operating system; the developer does not receive the text you translate or have read aloud. Apple may need to download language assets to your device to provide them.
Importing and exporting
Importing an Anki .apkg, CSV or JSON file reads that file
directly from your device. Exporting writes a file you choose the destination
for. Neither passes through any server.
Spotlight, widgets, Siri and Apple Watch
Cerebo indexes your cards with Spotlight so you can find them from your Home Screen, shares a small summary of what is due with its own widgets through an App Group, donates deck shortcuts to Siri, and sends your decks to the Cerebo Apple Watch app. All of this stays between your own devices and the operating system.
No third parties
Cerebo contains no third-party SDKs, no analytics or crash-reporting libraries, no advertising, and no tracking of any kind across apps or websites. Nothing about you is sold or shared, because nothing is collected.
Children
Cerebo is suitable for all ages and collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
